Whether you’re camera shy or not, it goes without saying that you’ll want your big day captured. With most wedding photography amounting to more than £1000, though, sometimes that hard decision will arise whether to put that precious money into something else.

Don’t worry! There are so many other fun alternatives to having a photographer and here our top 3 ideas:

1. Disposable Cameras

Instead of getting one viewpoint of your wedding, why not get hundreds?! Disposable cameras can be bought in large quantities now, usually with a white or cream cover, as their popularity at weddings has increased. You can pop a couple in each of your reception tables, or on the chair seats at your service. One fabulous idea that we’ve seen a lot lately is making tiny goody bags for the guests – which would include the disposable camera – and handing these out at the start of the wedding. Wouldn’t this work so well for a destination wedding location like Cyprus? A thoughtful welcome treat for your guests!

2. Photo Booth / Photo Table

Depending on the formality of your big day, you could hire a photo booth for the wedding reception. We’ve also seen lovely set ups with a Polaroid camera on a table in the reception for guests to take photos with. The advantage of a photo booth or similar is that you keep the digital copies. Both ideas, though, are great if you want your wedding to be a relaxed affair and you’re not too bothered about the formalities.

3. Wedding Hashtag

With everyone linked by social media today, a stress free way of getting lots and lots of wedding photos without a photographer is by setting up a hashtag and then asking guests to tag your wedding and post your photos on social media. You can introduce your hashtag on your save the date or wedding invitation or have it in cute signs around your venue. There is also the option of setting up online sharing folders (Dropbox, Google Drive or similar) where guests can upload their snaps if you wanted to keep everything a bit more private. At the end of your wedding, you can download all your friends and family’s photograph and voilà! A wedding album with no expense spared but much fun had!

So what are you planning for your wedding photography? Or if you’ve already gone through the process then let us know what option you had on your big day, we’d love to hear!
