Music chat doesn’t come cheap. Live music for a wedding can be an expensive element of the budget and with some very easy ways to include tunes in your reception, live bands sometimes get overlooked.
I had a live band on my wedding day and after I got over the initial intake of breath at the expense, I can safely say they were one, if not ‘the’, of my favourite parts of the whole day. These are my top 3 reasons, from experience, why, if you can, a live band is the way to go.
1. Remember you’re planning an event
Okay, so of course we haven’t forgotten that it’s your wedding day, however it’s important to also remember that for all your guests it’s also a celebration and an event. In other words, you are really putting on an event, in terms of the music. Let’s face it, not many people would go out on a Saturday night with their grandparents to listen to a Spotify playlist, and the same applies for a wedding. Of course, this is budget depending, but listening to a band would be an evening in itself, so more inclusive of all the guests, not just the young’uns.
2. Afternoon & evening sets
If you’re in talks with good musicians that don’t want to charge you for anything and everything, you will often be able to arrange for a smaller section of the band, or the whole band themselves, depending on their size, to play at other points in the day on top of the evening music. This could be whilst your guests are mingling when they first arrive at the reception, or they could even be included earlier on in the day in the service. If you’re paying for them to be there – probably for the whole day – then make sure you can see what you can get in terms of different sets.
3. Unbeatable atmosphere
Wedding bands can’t be beaten for electric wedding atmosphere. They can play that ballad for the first dance, where everyone is caught in the couple’s moment. Then the tempo can change as they up the pace into the evening and get everyone up dancing. Live music gives a wedding all the drama and atmosphere that such an occasion deserves.
