Weddings are a costly business. Every couple will have their different budgets and there will always be an element of compromise. Have a look at our top 5 ways to subtly budget on your wedding day; no one will know and you’ll be able to put the money to other things.
1. Combine wedding cake & desert
One of the easiest ways of saving money on your wedding day is to combine your wedding cake with the desert at your wedding breakfast. A good way of doing this is to go for either a traditional cake that has different layers to cater for different tastes, or to go for a less traditional cake such as wedding pavlova. You can cut the cake after the main course – this way everyone will be able to see this big moment – and then it can go into the kitchen to be cut up for the desert. Why not have the speeches before the desert to allow enough time for the cake to get portioned? You don’t lose out on a wedding cake, or cutting the cake or a desert. Perfect!
2. Borrow a car
Wedding car hire can be expensive and there is sure to be someone you know that has a nice car you can use. If not, put the feelers out and see if any of your friends or parents’ friends know anyone. Most people are very happy to help out and you could accept the car as a wedding gift. Make sure to invite them along to the evening do to say thank you!
3. Skip on favours
Wedding favours are a lovely touch, however they aren’t at all necessary. A lot of weddings favours sadly get left on the tables after the excitement of the day. No one will notice if you skip on this and put the money to somewhere else. If you are really adamant on wedding favours, why not combine them with something else you were going to do on the day. For example, if you were planning on having a sparkler send off, why not have the sparklers as the wedding favour?
4. Organise own alcohol
If you can, buy your own alcohol in. A corkage charge normally works out a lot less than buying through the venue. This also allows you to really choose the wine and other drinks you’d like at your wedding, especially if there are some sentimental choices. Arrange to have a bar at your wedding so that once the alcohol that you’ve provided is gone, the guests can buy their own. It is very generous to supply the alcohol for the whole event but it is very costly.
5. Make own wedding album
One of the biggest expenses at a wedding is the wedding photographer. This can’t be helped, but what can, is all the extras they offer. Why not create your own wedding album rather than having it included in the package? This is where a lot of the price lies and there are so many online sites now where you can upload and create your own album that it is definitely more cost effective to do it yourself. You also get 100% choice over what gets included too, which is a bonus!
