Weddings can be a long day for little people. There are lots of moments when they have to sit still and quiet and so it’s only fair to reward them with a bit of fun afterwards! So, it’s a great idea for couples who have children attending their wedding to think ahead and have activities planned for their reception.
There are lots of different things you can do to keep children entertained, and it just depends what fits in best with your style of wedding and the reception set up you have. Other dependencies are budget, how many children you’ll be ‘hosting’ and how long the reception will be.
Kids Only Table
Some couples decide to have completely adult free zones at the wedding and to have tables just for kids. This makes it easier in terms of the height of the table as you can have smaller tables and chairs set up just for the guests’ children. You can also have a lot of fun with what you dress these tables with. Of course the wine glasses and bottles are out the window, and instead you can adorn the table with colourful plastic glasses, activity books, colouring pencils, etc.
Kids Pack
If you’d prefer the children to sit with their parents during the meal but still want to make sure they’re entertained, you could make a kids pack and have this at their place setting. This could include similar things to the kids only tables; colour pencils, sweets and more.
Kids Zone
It would be a great idea to create a kids play area with your reception. It would encourage your mini guests to play there rather than running riot around the tables and the more ‘adult’ areas near the bar. Games are fun for everyone at a wedding, so if you have some outdoor space at your wedding, then why not set up a couple of games – pin the tail on the donkey, ring toss, giant jenga – that the children could join in with.
