Cyprus, Island of Love

So you've decided to get married on the beautiful island of Cyprus but are left thinking, 'What next?' Planning a wedding can be daunting at any time but planning a destination wedding can seem like a mammouth task! Don't panic though, we've got some great tips on helping you get started planning your dream wedding.

1) Choose part of the island

Which part of the island you choose to get married on can influence the atmosphere of your entire wedding. Perhaps you'd like a relaxed beachfront wedding or something rustic in the mountains? Maybe you'd prefer a traditional village wedding or make a feature of some of the historic architecture from Cyprus' rich history. Whatever you choose, there's somewhere on the island to suit your style! Check out our article on the different areas of Cyprus to help you make a decision.

2) To have or not to have a wedding planner?

Most people employ the services of a wedding planner to help them organise a destination wedding but this route is not for everyone. Wedding planners often have a select group of suppliers that they work with – some people prefer this as it means they don't have to research suppliers but you may prefer to have complete control over all aspects of your day. If a wedding planner isn't for you, we've got a large and continuously growing directory of suppliers islandwide to help you with your plans.

3) Ceremony and venue decisions

It's up to you whether you'd like a civil or religious ceremony in Cyprus and the process for applying is relatively similar for both options which you can read about in detail on our legal requirements page. The type of ceremony you choose can influence your reception venue as a lot of hotels offer civil ceremony and reception packages but there are a multitude of tavernas, restaurants and villas if you're looking for something a bit different.

4) Book the big things

Once you've made some of the important decisions, now is the time to get some of the bigger bookings out of the way. After the ceremony and venue bookings, picking a photographer (and/or videographer) is a high priority as they can get booked up months and years in advance. Other important things to book well in advance to ensure you get your first choice include transport, music, outside catering (if required), flowers, cake and of course, the dress!

5) Pick a colour scheme/theme

This goes hand in hand with booking certain items such as flowers and the cake so take some time to think about whether you'd like a theme for your day or just want to pick a great colour scheme. This could be anything from one colour or go wild and create an entire colour palette for your day! We've got some great inspiration posts on our blog to help you with themes and colour schemes if you're stuck for ideas.

6) Have fun with the details

With all the big bookings out of the way, you can breathe a sigh of relief! Now is all about having some fun and injecting some personality into your day to reflect yourselves as a couple. If you've picked a theme, make use of it! From favours to decor and invitations you can spend lots of time pouring over all these fun little details to make your day super personal and unique.
