How to arrange your tables at your wedding and how to decorate them is a big task. It’s a lot more than just furniture; it’s all about the ambiance of your wedding and how the guests and décor and food served will all merge together.
Under this decision umbrella comes the table plan and how you will present your tables to your guests. How will you display this to your guests? How will they know where they are sitting at your wedding? All of these decisions are very interwoven, but today I wanted to focus on the connection between the seating plan and the tables themselves. And of course, some couples choose not to have a seating plan – with their guests being able to choose wherever they sit – so if this is you, you don’t have to worry about all of the following!
Illustrative Seating Plan
This type of seating plan is where you have neither table names or table numbers, but you design the seating plan itself so that simply by looking at it the guests know where to head to in the venue. This means that their names themselves become the design. For example, if you are having round tables, you could insert the guests names in a circular way to represent the table. Once they’ve found the appropriate table, they can then look for their name cards on the table. This option works very well if you are having a smaller reception, where guests will be more easily able to find where they are sitting due to fewer names.
Names & Numbers
The second option for your table plan is to use numbers or names. The numbers are pretty self explanatory, and for the names, you can get creative! It could be that they fit in with your theme – for example, if you are having a literary theme, then you might use names of your favourite books or even phrases – or represent countries you have travelled together, or names of sports you enjoy together. Anything really! It’s then up to you now you incorporate these into your table décor. Again, they could only go as far as helping people know where to sit, or they could be a part of a large theme.
