For the DIY bride, there are a couple of essentials that should make up her DIY wedding box. These will create a great impact at your wedding whilst keeping things simple. Ah, simplicity; a word that’s never normally in the same breath as wedding!

Brown Paper Labels and Flags

Simply, get your hands on some labels and flags and anything similar. Places like Hobbycraft in the UK are great for small craft items and you’ll sure to find what you want at base prices. Once you have a selection, the possibilities are endless. You can create some sweet name flags to wrap onto paper straws, or use luggage tags to create the seating plan with, and even the place settings. If you have a sweets table, then why not use the DIY flags to label your goodies so your guests know what to choose.

Pompoms & Bunting

Let’s start with pompoms because oh, I love this creation so! Pompoms have just taken over the wedding scene of late and it is not hard to see why; they are cheap to buy and make for the most incredible wedding decorations. My favourite are tissue pompoms; these deliciously fluffy yet delicate hangings. You can buy them separately or in big packs – often with several different sizes – and they are incredibly easy to transport since they are just tissue paper. The thing about pompoms is that they are fairly labour intensive, so if you are decorating a marquee, for example, you might need to get some helpers in! But, to be honest, for the DIY bride, this sort of thing is completely in her stride… Am I right?!

Bunting is an ace decoration to make if you’re a whizz on the sewing machine. You can buy bunting, sure, but it is a lot more cost effective if you source your own material and get making. By going down the DIY route with the bunting you can choose exactly the kind of look you want: lace, or burlap, maybe. The other major plus point of bunting is that it will take some sewing but you can cover good distance in your venue with bunting, so your hard work – in its effect when hung – will be really noticed.
