The best man is certainly one of the wedding elite. He has the best seat in the house in the big day; he is your groom’s right hand man in the truest sense of the word.
So what is the role of the best man both on the run up and on the day?
The main responsibilities that always crop up are:
Stag Do
Whether planning it with the groom or taking full responsibility, the best man’s main pre wedding gig is the stag do. The best man knows the groom the best and so can rally the troops and organise a night or weekend (or even week!) that he’ll love.
Ring Keeper
It’s the best man’s responsibility to keep the wedding rings safe and to produce them in the ceremony when directed. A nervous moment for even the most organised of people!
Speech
The best man speech is probably the most memorable aspect of the role. He draws upon the grooms past and his relationship with him and it is usually interwoven with funny, heartfelt, shocking (?!) anecdotes. It is after a best man’s speech that you can see why he got the job!
All Round Wedding Helper
Generally the best man will be quite involved with the wedding and so knows when he will need to help out. They might help seating people, directing people towards the photograph and so on.
It is the best man who gets to walk the chief bridesmaid back down the aisle of the ceremony and couple up after the bride and grooms first dance – so it’s really not all hard work!
