Most couples have money saving on their mind when it comes to their wedding. If not money saving, then being money savvy with the amount you know you can spend. So I’ll put this to you – have you considered having your reception in a restaurant? Here are my top three reasons why I think it is a simply spot on idea.

1. Great Food

It might seem an obvious one, but you can count on the food being top notch. If you’ve been to a selection of weddings, then you’ll know how mediocre some of the food can be. In short, serving food is exactly what a restaurant does, day in day out. They don’t have to show you a portfolio of their dishes or try and sell you an expensive wine as part of their food package. If you live in Cyprus, for example, or are travelling over a couple of times beforehand, go and actually eat at the restaurant. If their every day is to your liking, then I’m sure they nosh they knock up for your big day will be fantastic.

2. Package Free

Sometimes it can be a little limiting trying to organise your wedding with an established venue. You can fault them for professionalism, but a lot of the time they have certain packages – bronze, silver, gold, you know the drill – that you can choose from and sometimes it can feel a little constrained. Unless the restaurant you have your eye on hosts a lot of weddings, you’ll probably find them to be incredibly authentic in their wedding approach.

3. Refreshingly Relaxed

If you want a relaxed wedding reception, a restaurant is definitely an option to think about. You’ll probably be given a lot more scope to decorate yourself and use your own suppliers. It’s a great ‘half way house’ as I like to think. You get all your facilities – toilets, chairs and tables, even linen probably – that you wouldn’t if you were hiring an empty venue, but you can breathe a little more into the space and make your own mark, knowing you’re not the same as the wedding yesterday or tomorrow.
