Second to the bride, the mother of the bride has a big sartorial choice to make for the wedding day. She may not be the leading lady, but she is your right hand woman on the day and will want to look and feel the part.

Here are a few fashion choices to think about with your mum for the big day:

Bridesmaid Colour

You might want to suggest that she wears the same colour as the bridesmaids. This will single her out amongst the other guests and put her on the pedestal she deserves. It can be a completely different outfit – of course dressing her exactly the same as your friends would look a little odd – but in the same shade, pulling the leading women altogether. If you are getting your dresses made from a boutique, this will be a simple option as they will should have many matching mother of the bride outfits.

Wonderful in White

There’s only one other guest who should be allowed to wear white, in my opinion, and that’s the mamas! White can look oh so elegant for the mother of the bride and coupled with some sparkling jewellery can really stand out. Layered white, depending on the time of year of the wedding, looks super chic. You can play around with fabrics, keeping it all in the same colour palette.

Big is Best

Make sure your mum wears a hat! It’s one of the only times you can really go for it, when your mother of the bride. The bigger the better; think Carrie Grant from Four Weddings and a Funeral. Weddings hats are very easy to rent, too, so that’s an option if you don’t want to worry about storing it afterwards.
