We all want our wedding day to represent us; us as a couple and as two separate people coming together. This means that whether you’re after a traditional wedding or just a celebration over a lunch you should be allowed to do just as you wish! The Informal Wedding – as I’m dubbing it here – is perfect for couples who want to keep the day relaxed and free from certain schedules.

Of course, you can mix and match, chop and change as much as you like with your wedding day timeline. Here are just a few ways in which you can keep your wedding day ‘you’ and doesn’t become overwhelming.

You Don’t Have to Wear White

The wedding dress is one of the more highly anticipated elements of the wedding. It’s something that you might have thought lots about as a child, and taken interest in with other weddings you’ve been to. However, what if you’re not a ‘dress’ person? Or you are, but you don’t like the wedding dress style? Then don’t wear one! Start your wedding decisions as you mean to go on; make decisions for you and your partner, not what you feel you should do.

Keep the Food Casual

A big part of a wedding is the food. Guests look forward to it and even if you’re too excited to eat being the bride or groom, you want to make sure your guests and anyone else involved is well fed. However, if you’re not a three course couple, or the thought of having a formal ‘wedding breakfast’ is off-putting, then just serve the food however you would like. Have an outdoor buffet, have shearing platters in the middle of tables instead of centrepieces, or create a picnic like vibe with a BBQ or hampers. Don’t be afraid to serve the food you like, too. If you both love pizza, serve it! I’m sure the guests will only love it!

Be Playful

Whether you send out playful invitations or provide games for people to partake in on the day, if you want to keep your wedding day relaxed and informal then treat it like any other group gathering. Let your guests get a feel for the day before they arrive by setting the tone with your save the dates or invitations and set the scene at your reception venue with décor, lounging space, games and music.
